This continuing education (CE) course is accredited and will provide a review of the etiology of addiction. The psychological impacts of addiction will be discussed including anxiety and panic, depression, paranoia, shame and guilt, cognition and interpersonal functioning and relationships. DSM-5-TR diagnostic criteria for Alcohol Use Disorder, Cannabis Use Disorder, Opioid Use Disorder, Stimulant Use Disorder, and Tobacco Use Disorder will be examined. Consideration for common psychiatric comorbidities for substance use disorders will be reviewed (e.g., anxiety and depression, personality disorders, and eating disorders) and evidence-based psychosocial treatments.
