This one hour continuing education course explains the pathophysiology of pain and will help clinicians develop individualized assessments based on patient characteristics, type and severity of pain, non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic options, and rational initiation of opioid analgesics. There are appropriote uses for opioid analgesics when other pain management options aren't an option for patients, this  course will help you to learn how to develop individualized pain management plans for these type of patients. You will also learn to develope therapy goals, including reduction in pain intensity, realistic recovery of meaningful activity, and safe use of opioid analgesics, as well as customized follow up plans, including education related to efficacy, safety, and harm reduction of opioid analgesics.
